Powerlifting Weight Class Checker & Boundary Guide

A weight class groups lifters by weigh-in bodyweight. Select a federation preset below to see how the stored limits classify your input. Presets are a reference, not proof of eligibility for a specific event.

Check the event rulebook. Age divisions, national branches and rule changes can affect the available classes. The presets currently carried over from this site have not all been revalidated against 2026 rulebooks. Do not use them as your only source when entering a meet.
Your unit selection is remembered for all calculators.

Weight classes vary by federation. This tool uses your selected units and converts internally to kg.

What an upper limit means

In a class whose upper limit is 83 kg, a recorded bodyweight of 83.00 kg is at that limit. A bodyweight above it belongs to the next applicable class in the preset. The calculator uses the entered value for the boundary comparison; it does not decide the official scale precision, clothing allowance or weigh-in procedure.

A simple boundary example

Input in the IPF men’s Open presetResult
82.9 kg83 kg class
83.0 kg83 kg class
83.1 kg93 kg class

The distance from 82.9 kg to the 83 kg ceiling is 0.1 kg. That number is a mathematical difference, not a recommendation to manipulate bodyweight. Choosing a class is a separate decision from calculating its boundary.

Why federation and age both matter

A category name is not universal. Federations can use different weight limits, and younger divisions may have additional classes. For example, the stored IPF preset here is an Open-class list, so it should not be treated as the complete list for every age division. Read the current rulebook and the meet entry information together.

Pounds are a conversion, not a new class system

The stored limits are in kilograms. If you use pounds, the input is converted to kilograms before classification. The result shows the official-style kilogram ceiling alongside a pound equivalent where relevant. Do not round a weigh-in bodyweight up or down merely to make it match a displayed conversion.

Before you submit an entry

Confirm the sanctioning federation, division and event date. Check the rulebook version applicable to that event, the required membership and the weigh-in arrangements. If the meet announcement and a calculator disagree, ask the organiser. Keep the original class designation when recording your result.

Report an outdated preset with a link to the official rulebook and the affected class list.
